For the first time in awhile, I can say I’m attending….
WIAW!!
Today, I’m gonna be sharing the recipes I tried over the past weekend and some new weightlifting moves I’ve been loving!
…..Sorry about the lack of green….I had lots of pumpkin and rutabaga…does that count?
1. Shannon’s protein cookies! I used peanut flour instead of the whole grain and added in chunks of walnuts! Mine weren’t as pretty as her’s, but they still were like pillows of palate pleasing happiness

psychotic cookie girl alert
2. Powercake–I rolled with almond flour in this bad boy instead of oats. Kasey is a genius, this is SO good!! FYI the black dots are from the cookies and cream protein powder I used in it haha It’s not ants
3. Sunflower Seed Butter Cookies–I made half the recipe and instead of oat flour, I used peanut flour! And since I was using my cookie sheet for fries, I had to use a muffin tin. Okay so umm I’m addicted to them. They came out FAN freakin TASTIC and have a buttload of protein for a cookie!!! MAKE THEM!!!!!

perhaps the ugliest batter ever, but it smelled like a baseball game with all the sunflowery goodness!
4. No bake protein bars–instead of oats, I filled mine with extra mixed nuts–peanuts, walnuts, pecans, and cashews. And I used almond milk instead of skim milk. Mine got kinda sticky and never really set well, so I’ve been mashin it up in cottage cheese for a snack
5. Rutabaga Fries– after seeing how Chelsea made a batch the other day, I just had to get my hands on one. I’d never had rutabaga before! After peeling the skin off, I roasted up some fries and seasoned them. The flavor was semi sweet to begin with and then it got kinda bitter. Still on the fence about it haha
Good news? I have a TON of leftovers to nosh on all week mwahha
6. Pumpkin Powercake roll–subbed peanut flour for the oat flour and filled it with peanut butter and cottage cheese! Made QUITE the tasty breakfast paired with chai tea
~~~~
Now you may be wondering, why is she subbing peanut flour or almond flour for all the oats!?
Well friends, oats have been jackin up my tummy again. If you’re a newer reader, I had some HARDCORE tummy woes with oats last year and my doctor informed me it was some kind of intolerance. So I cut them out for a long time, and tried them again for a few months only to be greeted with more issues (cough cough constipation, nausea, and an increased heart rate…tmi indeed)
Soooooo I’ve been focusing more on nut flours. I’m happy to announce my body and plumbing has been quite pleased!
~~~~
Workout wise, here are five moves I’ve been recently incorporating and LOVING! Click on the links to see vids
- Spider curls
- Tate Press
- Sissy Squats (nothin sissy about them haha)
- Overhead plate hold to fail (talk about feelin the burn!)
- Incline Bench Pull
Hope everyone has a bangin WIAW!
Do you have any food intolerances? Favorite rather unknown workout move? Best recipe you’ve tried lately? (feel free to link up!)

So much cakey goodness! YUM! And those fries look amazzeeeinggg.
You’re so good with making all these recipes! I often find myself lacking time
everything looks great though!
I still really want to make that powercake roll. I’ve been loving spider curls lately too and I’ve never heard of a tate press but that looks awesome!
LOOOOVE that you made my recipes!!!! thank you so much <3 <3 <3
you are AWESOME! ;] totally made my day!!
all these look so good!
and holy cowboys and batman. i just tried that sissy squat and fell straight on my butt! love the new moves though
I’m DYING to try peanut flour, but cannot find any stockists in Australia
oh the tate press. That looks cool!! I will try that. And i would avoid flours for a while. Peanut flour, coconut flour, and almond meal are great substitutes! Good call.
thanks for all the recipes, ve bookmarked a few as been meaning to make some protein tpe deserts.
I love the idea of smashing up those bars into cottage cheese! YUM! They look delicious
Oooh so much yummyness! Seriously, I want to try everything you made. Sorry for the oat issues! I love them so much, so I hope you get that all sorted out soon. Also, maybe trying to bake the rutabagas for longer will make them less bitter..? I’m planning on trying them soon, so I’m gonna overbake them and see what I get. Happy WIAW!
Ooh good idea, I’ll have to overbake them next time!
wow, this wiaw is power-tastic! love the new recipe links and now i’m craving some rutabagas!
Ayayay, I’m sorry about the oats, my friend. If it makes you feel better, I can’t eat any of these because of the egg whites! (booooooo.)
Dude that blows!! I’m so sorry to hear you’re allergic to that!
So many powered up eats – want!!!
Have you tried gluten-free oats? Or do you think it’s the oat and not the gluten that’s a problem? Well, not really a problem, because almond flour is amazing, but still. Thanks for all the recipe ideas! Especially the SSB cookies, because I love everything SSB.
Aw thank you SO much for trying out my recipe! I’m so glad you liked them!!!
<3 All the other recipes you tried look great too! I'm about to go check them all out.
Aw, sorry to hear about your tummy! I'm glad you are feeling better now.
Nut flours are so awesome!
Dang! You made quite the assortment of amazing recipes! I’m may or may not be drooling…Your powercake is so perfectly round and delicious looking!
I’m sorry that the rutabaga fries weren’t your favorite- I can’t say I’ve ever tried them. But, I do like parsnip fries! Have you given those a try?
Happy WIAW! <3
I’ve never tried a parsnip, but now I’m intrigued!
I’m sorry for your oat intolerance,Alexandra… I know what it’s like if you can’t eat something you actually love as I cannot stomach lots of things. Sometimes,I eat them though because they’re so yummy (yeeees,I know I am stupid…),but I’m always dying afterwards…
Gladly,I can buy lactose free dairy at least because without dairy,I’m nothing! I do like soy milk and stuff, but it doesn’t really replace dairy,in my opinion.
I really have to tell you that I actually laughed out loud when it said
“shield your eyes from its nakedness”
hahaha you make me laugh.
looks like some good eats.
ummm I am loving this new layout. I wanted to change mine up too, but I’m still waiting for my sister to fix and redesign my fuzzy pixelated header
lol
and WIAWOOOOOW! lol this is by far my most fav WAIW, and that’s saying a lot b/c normally I could care less what people are eating but I want to try and tackle 90% of these yummies. what a creative powerhouse chef you are
workout food that’s yummy! YAY!
it wouldn’t let me comment on my wordpress account
???
Hmmm I wonder why it wouldnt let you comment…poop!
Dude you have to try some of these things, they’re amazinggggg
I love the new look of your blog and you psychotic girl face … that’s my favorite LOL
Goodness these all look so delicious! I am going to have to take one each day and try it out! ha
Especially those rutabaga fries, never heard of such a thing! They look good though!
HAHA so glad your plumbing is back to normal!
You are too funny!!!
I obviously need to get on Alexandra’s workout plan because I want some of those guns you got girl! haha Thanks for sharing it with us! Also, thanks for sharing all these recipes..I want to def try the no bake bars. Less work = happy Julia! haha
You were busy in the kitch for sure!
The food all looks so delicious!
Just found this blog – love it
x
Wow, you have been quite the busy little bee in the kitchen!! Very impressive baking! That power cake looks particularly tasty!
I want to try all of these recipes! I wonder how you have the time/patience! Haha
Lovin all the other flours you’re using. Everything still tastes just AS good even with the substitutions! I’ll definitely be giving some of these recipes a try ESPECIALLY the power roll cake. That has been on my radar for awhile now and I just haven’t gotten around to it
Oh man you definitely gotta make that, it is SO good!!!
Everything looks delicious. I haven’t been on your blog for a while so I have a ton of catching up to do. Can’t wait to read what you’ve been up to lately. Have a great day
As soon as I get home (I’m on the way home from vacation), I am totally making those recipes!!! I seriously need to find some peanut flour, where do you buy yours?
I have a sensitivity to most meats except chicken, turkey, and fish. They give me…eh…tummy problems to say the least. Good thing I don’t like red meat!
I buy mine off of http://www.southerngracefarms.com/peanutflour.html It’s awesome!!!!
Even though I love and can eat oats, I would have totally subbed in peanut flour too, I am obsessed with it! I still really want to try almond flour–does it taste really almond-y?
It does! More of a mild almond flavor, but almondy nonetheless!
You are on fire with awesome looking recipes!!
Heading over to check out that powercake now =)
Yes- unfortunately I’m allergic to Flaxseed and Avocados….bummer huh?
I love spider curls- they are challenging since you have to extend all the way.
One exercise I love that lost people don’t know is the face pull. Look it up & try it- you’ll love it!
Dude facepulls are the bomb! I love doing those too!
Wow you have been busy! Look at all of these delicious looking baked goods! I want to try the protein cookies
I need some more protein in my life!
I’m also really pleased for you that you’ve sorted out your oaty issues! Hope you’re having a lovely day
Thank you my friend! Those protein cookies are the bomb, you’ll love them!
Oh wow…everything looks SO good! Great eats!!
goodness everything looks amazing! guess Im going to have to hit up my kitchen tomorrow and get to work
Haha you pretty much made all the recipes I’ve been eyeing off for ages in this post… I reckon the no bake protein bars look really good all sticky!! Definitely good to mix up with stuff.
Wow you made so much stuff and it all looks delicious! So sorry to hear that oats are being mean to you again..have you ever tried gluten free oats? I am currently eating dairy free, gluten free, and pescatarian and I feel great!!
I have actually and sadly they tear me up too. It kinda sucks, but I’m actually kind of enjoying grain free!
That’s awesome you’ve found a meal plan that works for your body, doesn’t it feel great when your body is happy???
Where do you find all this time to bake!? I’m so jealous! And everything looks seriously SO good. I really want to try Kasey’s pumpkin roll!
Also about the rutabaga – I found a new recipe in my Clean Food cookbook that I want to try – pureed rutabaga with orange and ginger. Maybe a recipe like that would help cut the bitterness?
Ooh nice! I’d love to see that puree recipe!
Alexandra – thank you so much for the prayers and thoughts for Grammie <3 It really means so very much to me <3
Fave unknown lift == Tate press! I wrote about it and have a demo video on my blog somewhere, you can search for it in the upper corner if you're really interested
You are more than welcome friend
I’m sure your wonderful grandma is watching down on you from heaven now with so much love <3
Everything looks delicious!
you must really like nuts. THAT”S WHAT SHE SAID. okay sorry, I couldn’t resist, now that I got that 12-year-old comment out of my system ….these all look fantastic!! LIke really, who needs store-bought protein bars when you can just whip up all these goodies and eat cakes and cookies and muffins instead of bars right?? NOM. I especially love the no-bake ones, I’m a huge fan of stickier baked goods (okay well these aren’t baked but y’know), so I defs gotta try those. And omg I’m so sorry about the oats! I am lactose intolerant so I defs know how much it sucks to have food intolerances. I’m not gonna pretend like I don’t still sometimes eat froyo and ice cream, but it’s never pretty when I do haha.
girl I think I need to try ALL of these recipes! WOW!
Love you hunnie.
And thanks for sharing some of your moves
since you’re looking so ripped and what not
p.s. I want to try your over head plate hold
I usually do plate holds but straight out in front of me! Always good to switch things up
What weight of plate are you doing babe?
Usually I do either 25 or 30. I never thought to hold it to fail in front of you, how genius!!!
So much protein awesomeness going on over hurrrr! Love it! I definitely want to try ALL of the protein ones, but especially the sunflower butter cookies, those are catching my eye right now
Oh wait and that roll too… and the bars! Gah, all hehe
I still have not tried rutabaga either! Perhaps when I am home next week
Happy WIAW my dear friend
My mouth won’t stop watering, lol. XP
I’ve never seen a rutabaga! :O Can the taste be compared to another vegetable?
It was sort of like a turnip!
Whoa girl, you were on a roll last week…everything looks so delicious, and so nicely presented! I especially want to try a slice of that powercake (preferably a la mode
)! And please give rutabaga fries another chance, I promise they’re delicious!
