le Gym and le Kitchen

For the first time in awhile, I can say I’m attending….

WIAW!!

Peas and Crayons

Today, I’m gonna be sharing the recipes I tried over the past weekend and some new weightlifting moves I’ve been loving!

…..Sorry about the lack of green….I had lots of pumpkin and rutabaga…does that count? ;)

1. Shannon’s protein cookies! I used peanut flour instead of the whole grain and added in chunks of walnuts! Mine weren’t as pretty as her’s, but they still were like pillows of palate pleasing happiness

psychotic cookie girl alert

2. Powercake–I rolled with almond flour in this bad boy instead of oats. Kasey is a genius, this is SO good!! FYI the black dots are from the cookies and cream protein powder I used in it haha It’s not ants ;)

i doused it in peanut butter, jelly, and cream cheese after i snapped the nude pic haha

3. Sunflower Seed Butter Cookies–I made half the recipe and instead of oat flour, I used peanut flour! And since I was using my cookie sheet for fries, I had to use a muffin tin. Okay so umm I’m addicted to them. They came out FAN freakin TASTIC and have a buttload of protein for a cookie!!! MAKE THEM!!!!!

perhaps the ugliest batter ever, but it smelled like a baseball game with all the sunflowery goodness!

10 cookies demolished within 2 days...

they tasted awesome with jelly and cottage cheese (or cream cheese heehee) in sandwich form!

4. No bake protein bars–instead of oats, I filled mine with extra mixed nuts–peanuts, walnuts, pecans, and cashews. And I used almond milk instead of skim milk. Mine got kinda sticky and never really set well, so I’ve been mashin it up in cottage cheese for a snack :)

even better stuck in the freezer for a bit

5. Rutabaga Fries– after seeing how Chelsea made a batch the other day, I just had to get my hands on one. I’d never had rutabaga before! After peeling the skin off, I roasted up some fries and seasoned them. The flavor was semi sweet to begin with and then it got kinda bitter. Still on the fence about it haha

shield your eyes from his nakedness!

pre roasted babies

paired with olive oil doused broccoli and grilled chicken NOM

Good news? I have a TON of leftovers to nosh on all week mwahha

this isn't even half of it

6. Pumpkin Powercake roll–subbed peanut flour for the oat flour and filled it with peanut butter and cottage cheese! Made QUITE the tasty breakfast paired with chai tea :)

pre baked flatness

sorry for the oober lame pic, I got hungry. (blogger fail)

Now you may be wondering, why is she subbing peanut flour or almond flour for all the oats!?

Well friends, oats have been jackin up my tummy again. If you’re a newer reader, I had some HARDCORE tummy woes with oats last year and my doctor informed me it was some kind of intolerance. So I cut them out for a long time, and tried them again for a few months only to be greeted with more issues (cough cough constipation, nausea, and an increased heart rate…tmi indeed)

Soooooo I’ve been focusing more on nut flours. I’m happy to announce my body and plumbing has been quite pleased! :D

  3. Sissy Squats (nothin sissy about them haha)
  4. Overhead plate hold to fail (talk about feelin the burn!)
  5. Incline Bench Pull

Hope everyone has a bangin WIAW!

  1. oh the tate press. That looks cool!! I will try that. And i would avoid flours for a while. Peanut flour, coconut flour, and almond meal are great substitutes! Good call.

  2. Oooh so much yummyness! Seriously, I want to try everything you made. Sorry for the oat issues! I love them so much, so I hope you get that all sorted out soon. Also, maybe trying to bake the rutabagas for longer will make them less bitter..? I’m planning on trying them soon, so I’m gonna overbake them and see what I get. Happy WIAW!

  3. Have you tried gluten-free oats? Or do you think it’s the oat and not the gluten that’s a problem? Well, not really a problem, because almond flour is amazing, but still. Thanks for all the recipe ideas! Especially the SSB cookies, because I love everything SSB.

  4. Aw thank you SO much for trying out my recipe! I’m so glad you liked them!!! :) <3 All the other recipes you tried look great too! I'm about to go check them all out.

Aw, sorry to hear about your tummy! I'm glad you are feeling better now. :) Nut flours are so awesome!

  5. Dang! You made quite the assortment of amazing recipes! I’m may or may not be drooling…Your powercake is so perfectly round and delicious looking!
I’m sorry that the rutabaga fries weren’t your favorite- I can’t say I’ve ever tried them. But, I do like parsnip fries! Have you given those a try?
    Happy WIAW! <3

  6. I’m sorry for your oat intolerance,Alexandra… I know what it’s like if you can’t eat something you actually love as I cannot stomach lots of things. Sometimes,I eat them though because they’re so yummy (yeeees,I know I am stupid…),but I’m always dying afterwards… :(
Gladly,I can buy lactose free dairy at least because without dairy,I’m nothing! I do like soy milk and stuff, but it doesn’t really replace dairy,in my opinion.

  7. I really have to tell you that I actually laughed out loud when it said
“shield your eyes from its nakedness”

    hahaha you make me laugh.

    looks like some good eats.

  8. ummm I am loving this new layout. I wanted to change mine up too, but I’m still waiting for my sister to fix and redesign my fuzzy pixelated header :P lol

and WIAWOOOOOW! lol this is by far my most fav WAIW, and that’s saying a lot b/c normally I could care less what people are eating but I want to try and tackle 90% of these yummies. what a creative powerhouse chef you are :D workout food that’s yummy! YAY!

it wouldn’t let me comment on my wordpress account :( ???

  9. Goodness these all look so delicious! I am going to have to take one each day and try it out! ha
Especially those rutabaga fries, never heard of such a thing! They look good though! :)

HAHA so glad your plumbing is back to normal! :) You are too funny!!!

  10. Lovin all the other flours you’re using. Everything still tastes just AS good even with the substitutions! I’ll definitely be giving some of these recipes a try ESPECIALLY the power roll cake. That has been on my radar for awhile now and I just haven’t gotten around to it

  11. As soon as I get home (I’m on the way home from vacation), I am totally making those recipes!!! I seriously need to find some peanut flour, where do you buy yours?
I have a sensitivity to most meats except chicken, turkey, and fish. They give me…eh…tummy problems to say the least. Good thing I don’t like red meat!

  12. Yes- unfortunately I’m allergic to Flaxseed and Avocados….bummer huh?

I love spider curls- they are challenging since you have to extend all the way.

One exercise I love that lost people don’t know is the face pull. Look it up & try it- you’ll love it! :)

  13. Wow you have been busy! Look at all of these delicious looking baked goods! I want to try the protein cookies :-) I need some more protein in my life!

I’m also really pleased for you that you’ve sorted out your oaty issues! Hope you’re having a lovely day :-)

  14. Wow you made so much stuff and it all looks delicious! So sorry to hear that oats are being mean to you again..have you ever tried gluten free oats? I am currently eating dairy free, gluten free, and pescatarian and I feel great!! :)

    • I have actually and sadly they tear me up too. It kinda sucks, but I’m actually kind of enjoying grain free! :) That’s awesome you’ve found a meal plan that works for your body, doesn’t it feel great when your body is happy??? :D

  15. Where do you find all this time to bake!? I’m so jealous! And everything looks seriously SO good. I really want to try Kasey’s pumpkin roll!

Also about the rutabaga – I found a new recipe in my Clean Food cookbook that I want to try – pureed rutabaga with orange and ginger. Maybe a recipe like that would help cut the bitterness? :)

  16. Alexandra – thank you so much for the prayers and thoughts for Grammie <3 It really means so very much to me <3

Fave unknown lift == Tate press! I wrote about it and have a demo video on my blog somewhere, you can search for it in the upper corner if you're really interested ;-)

  17. you must really like nuts. THAT”S WHAT SHE SAID. okay sorry, I couldn’t resist, now that I got that 12-year-old comment out of my system ….these all look fantastic!! LIke really, who needs store-bought protein bars when you can just whip up all these goodies and eat cakes and cookies and muffins instead of bars right?? NOM. I especially love the no-bake ones, I’m a huge fan of stickier baked goods (okay well these aren’t baked but y’know), so I defs gotta try those. And omg I’m so sorry about the oats! I am lactose intolerant so I defs know how much it sucks to have food intolerances. I’m not gonna pretend like I don’t still sometimes eat froyo and ice cream, but it’s never pretty when I do haha.

  18. So much protein awesomeness going on over hurrrr! Love it! I definitely want to try ALL of the protein ones, but especially the sunflower butter cookies, those are catching my eye right now :) Oh wait and that roll too… and the bars! Gah, all hehe
I still have not tried rutabaga either! Perhaps when I am home next week
Happy WIAW my dear friend :)

  19. My mouth won’t stop watering, lol. XP

I’ve never seen a rutabaga! :O Can the taste be compared to another vegetable?

  20. Whoa girl, you were on a roll last week…everything looks so delicious, and so nicely presented! I especially want to try a slice of that powercake (preferably a la mode ;) )! And please give rutabaga fries another chance, I promise they’re delicious!
