Sweet Potato Smoothie For Dummies

Top o’ the mornin’ everyone! 8)

Before I begin, I must say, yesterday’s WIAW party was AWESOME! You guys sure have some incredible eats, I always get so many neat ideas!

I decided to have fun with a “scheduled post” since Thursdays are my gnarly, busy days (i.e. classes from 8-5:30 eww). I hope this works, I’ve never tried it before!

~~~~
In the past, I’ve gotten a lot of questions/comments about my sweet potato smoothies, so I thought I’d dedicate a post to them! I’ll also be adding this link to my recipes page if you wanna reference back to it.
**If you follow these steps, I guarantee you will have happy taste buds, a happy belly, and be a happy human. :D
~~Best Sweet Potato Smoothie~~
#1 Bake a sweet potato in the oven at 350*F for an hour.
#2 Once cool, peel off the skin and stick it in the fridge overnight in a paper towel or plastic baggie so it won’t ooze all over the other food in there.
#3 In the morning, plop the tater in your blender/magic bullet/holy kitchen smoothie device.
1
#4 Add liquid of choice. (I use about 1/2 cup-1 cup soymilk)
2
#5 Add nut butter of choice. (I use about a tablespoon and a half of sunflower seed butter) This part’s optional, but it makes the smoothie 10,000,000x more delicious than it already is.
3
#6 Add in ice for ultimate thickness along with a serving of protein powder. (I like vanilla in my smoothies) You can also add in xanthan or guar gums if you’re in a rebellious mood.
4
#7 Blend like the dickens and try not to gnaw your arm off in anticipation. Feel free to ooh and ahh as it changes into a pretty shade of orange.
5
#8 Stick a straw in that baby and SLURP like nobody’s business. Just don’t chug too fast, brain freezes are no fun.
6
#9 Scrape the sides of the cup clean and try not to cry too hard when it’s over.
7
Ya know, it’s smoothies like these that make me not miss oats at all. Mr. Allergy, you have no grip on me, ha!
That’s all from me today folks! :P
Have a great rest of the week!
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve put in a smoothie? How do you like to eat sweet potatoes? Do you ever use scheduled posts when you’re busy?
  1. I tried this last night and it was delicious!! In addition to the sweet potato, I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk, PB2 (peanut powder), 1 tbsp of natural PB and added 1/2 frozen banana with a couple of ice cubes. Plus, a scoop of protein powder, of course. I couldn’t believe how good it was! Thick and creamy like a milkshake.
  9. YUMMY!! I’m a huge sweet potato fan. I had one today with melty pb on it. I really want to try the smoothie. Have a good weekend!! :)
  10. LOVE you girl :) I had a sweet potato tonight and thought of you. I haven’t baked a sweet tater in foreva. I like to steam them but baking it makes them so much better. I put pumpkin in my smoothies! Which is like the same thing kinda. I mean they’re both delicious and thick :)
  11. oh my god that looks DELICIOUS!! can you please come to my house and make this for me! but really though! cause that looks AMAZINGGGGGGGGG
  12. okay, you’re about to learn something really weird about me – i love sweet potato skins way more than the actual potatoes!
    i worked at a restaurant that served sweet potato biscuits w/ almost every dish. the prep cooks would boild bags of the sweet pots, peel them & give me the peels. i throw a little salt on those babies, grab a fork, & be in heaven!
    yup, i’m a strange one! :)
  13. I used to make sweet potato fries all the time with jelly, weird combo I know. I think it is crazy how people add spinach into their shakes, I don’t know how people do that!!
  14. I have two sweet potatoes sitting around just waiting to me smoothified :) I think the weirdest thing I’ve put in a smoothie is black beans. Don’t knock it ’til you try it. It’s actually delicious in a chocolate smoothie.
  15. I’m pretty much a smoothie scene newbie, so I have only been using bananas, but SWEET POTATOES sound about a kajillion times better, especially now that fall has fallen upon us. I need to get my hands on some xanthan gum, too.
  16. Love this! I shall try this asap. I used to throw EVERYTHING into a blender when I worked at a smoothie shop. Sometimes they tasted awful, but I was getting my nutrients so I didn’t currrr. I like my sweet potatoes as fries, as a potato, as mush..as darn near anything!
  17. Mmmmm! this could TOTALLY be a sweet potato protein latte! :D Awesome recipe. The weirdest thing I’ve put in smoothies? I think it would be…carob? It’s not that weird, but carob+frozen cherries=amazing smoothie! Try it :)
  18. I make up a big batch of swt taters all at once and then freeze them for shakes. It is soooo good. I usually don’t add nut butter to mine because I feel like the flavor gets lost, probably because I make my shakes huuuuge!
  19. I will HAVE to try this. I adore sweet potatoes, and that colour is so pretty :)
    Even though green smoothies are the norm on the blog world, everybody else thinks I’ve so weird when they see my dark green (Kale, Chard, Spinach!) sludgy smoothies :p
  20. Sweet potato smoothies hold a special place in my heart. I seriously feel like I’m eating a big ol hunk of sweet tater pie when I’m sucking one down! My plan today is to make a pumpkin sweet potato one to welcome in this wonderful week of fall, so I’ll let you know how it tastes!
  21. Thank you sooo much, I will definitely be making this soon! It looks sort of like a butterscotch shake! I’m not a potato fan of any sort in general but fries are nice once in a while…in a sandwich :) Hmm..weirdest thing in a shake was probably a protein bar, I just thought what the heck haha
  22. What a pretty color, it seems especially Fall fitting! I’ve never tried adding sweet potato to a smoothie, but I think I would like it! I use the scheduler on wordpress almost all the time! So far it hasn’t failed on me yet! :) I hope your long day of classes goes quickly :) Good news, tomorrow is already Friday :)
  23. oooh ahh ;) I’m going to have to try this!! It sounds so yummy! Icy, sweet potato-y and with a huge glob of sunbutter?? NOW you’re talkin!! Too bad I”m not at home right now so I can’t make it…even though I JUST ate breakfast :P
    Scheduled posts are LIFESAVERS! I wrote my post for tuesday and today last weekend and all I had to hit this morning was “publish” and I was out the door to school. :D BAM! just like that ;)
    Have a great day bestie!
    Brittany <3
  24. I love sweet potatoes, LOVE LOVE LOVE but I don’t know if I can handle a smoothie, or parting with one when I know it will be hot steamy and delicious if I heat it up!
  25. 8 to 5:30? Eeeeeep! My brain hurts just thinking about it. But I’m happy to see a post from you, despite the fact that you’re busy! Hooray for scheduling ahead! That’s something I still haven’t figured out how to do, but I’d definitely play around with it if I ever found myself really pressed for time. And thank you, THANK YOU for sharing your smoothie concoction :D I’ve used pumpkin in smoothies before, but never sweet potato… those I usually just eat baked with tonnes of cottage cheese and almond butter on top. I imagine that would make it taste extra delicious, though. And the nut butter too! Talk about creamy and luxurious.
  26. So glad you did this post woman! I have wondered how you have made such a crazy concoction of a smoothie… and I love your comment about not crying too much when it’s over lol. I am always sad when any of my meals are over..!
    I do scheduled posts all of the time! Even when I am not too busy, it’s nice to know they are going up when I am still sleeping :)
  28. Scheduled post can be a life saver in busy times! I always wondered how you made your sweet tater smoothie! The weirdest smoothie I made was pb&j LOL !
  29. I lovelovelove my sweet potato smoothies! I bake them, remove the skin, and then freeze the sweet potato :) It gives it an icecreamy texture. Sometimes I’ll throw the smoothie itself in the freezer for a bit too
